Many people in a West Fargo neighborhood are shaken up after hearing about an apparent murder suicide over the weekend.
Police found the bodies of Lance and Sharon Rick in the lower level of a home on Parkway Lane.
Police say they believe the incident is a murder suicide because they found a woman on the floor with two gunshot wounds and a man with a handgun next to him with another gunshot wound.
They also found a vehicle outside with a handgun case.
44–year–old Sharon Connell–Rick and 44–year–old Lance Rick were married but separated.
Rick came into Fargo on Saturday from Washington state to visit his wife Sharon at this house on Parkway Lane.
Sharon’s friend contacted police later that day when she couldn’t get a hold of her.
Early Sunday morning, police found the bodies.
“The neighbors are very much surprised at the outcome and are feeling grief over the loss of the neighbor,” said West Fargo Police Chief Michael Reitan.
Chief Reitan says a neighbor who took care of Sharon’s pets allowed police in.
Many that I talked to who live in the neighborhood say it’s surprising to have an event like this happen here in the community.
Marilyn Locy lives a few houses down from where the incident happened.
She says she was shocked when she heard the news.
“I just couldn’t believe it. I really couldn’t believe it,” said Locy.
When asked,”How come?”
“I wouldn’t think anything would happen like that over here, not here. It’s a real decent neighborhood, and it’s a quiet neighborhood. This is the quietest neighborhood I ever lived in,” said Locy.
Authorities are still investigating why this happened.
“We don’t have a motive; we are currently investigating family members and other individuals that knew the two,” said Reitan.
The handgun, along with other evidence, was collected at the scene.
Family members of both parties have been notified of the deaths.
