Pouring More Dollars into Construction
Construction will begin this month for Main Avenue in West Fargo, but it’s costing more than planned.
The final phase of construction on Main Avenue from Interstate 94 to drain 21 and over the Sheyenne bridge, is costing the city around 21 percent more.
West Fargo’s city commission gave the $23.8 million bid to Dakota Underground.
City officials say they could have waited but did feel it was the right move to act now with federal money available this year.
West Fargo city official Chris Brungardt said, “The state didn’t get their allotment from the federal funds, so where would we be next year because they haven’t passed a new highway bill yet either so we’re not sure if the money is going to be there next year or not.”
West Fargo will pay $6.9 million, and the other 90 percent will be covered by state and federal funds.
