As a fun and positive way to end the school year, 5th graders at Harwood elementary stepped up to help a community member in need.
The students did chores around the home of a long time Harwood community member.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford has the story.
Marge Fee is a 60–year resident of Harwood and a former school nurse at elementary school.
She has been highly involved within the community and is called “The Grand Marshall” of Harwood because of it.
When 5th graders at Harwood Elementary came up with the idea to help out someone in the community, the school knew just who to call.
“There are plenty of places around here that could use it. I think kids need to be connected with the community. And this is a good way. I’ll hear all about it now did you have all those kids in your yard?, said Marge Fee 60-year Harwood Resident.
The kids helped Fee do some outside work that she hasn’t been able to do herself.
It’s not every day you that you hear a 5th grader excited to do chores, but these 5th graders were happy to do it
“Makes me feel good I’m getting to help people.” said Luke Uggerud 5th grader at Harwood Elementary.
“Of going to elementary I’ve never done something like this. So yeah this is my first time doing something that makes me feel really good helping someone,” said Hunter McKenzie 5th grader at Harwood Elementary.
For a long time school nurse like Mrs. Fee it brought back the joy of working with children.
“I’m just happy I’m back to some kids that I understand. I understand these kids and they understand me,” said Mrs. Fee.
Harwood Elementary say they hope this new end of the year activity becomes a tradition.

The community service project is a part of a learning initiative that allows students to reflect, and focus on what the Harwood community has meant to them as they’ve grown up.
