While kids are out in the community this summer, they can receive a free hot meal.
It’s the 5th year of the Salvation Army’s Mobile Outreach Program.
Fish sticks, fruit and of course the chocolate milk. This is one of the meals served by the Salvation Army at Madison Park this summer.
Major Byron Medlock of the Salvation Army said,”If you don’t eat, you don’t grow. you mind cant grow your body can’t grow. So this is very necessary to continue their means and continue. This might be the only hot meal they get all day. so we want to make sure they get a quality meal.”
The lunches aren’t for just kids who receive free or reduced meals.
Anyone under the age of 18 is encouraged to dish up.
Major Medlock says he sees some of the same kids year after year
“It’s great, because some of these kids are growing and growing and they recognize me and they’re still as spunky as ever,” said Major Medlock.
And for one 11-year-old, he loves this time of the year.
Connor Peterson said,”We woke up late, so this is like our breakfast. And so we don’t have to set up we can just come here.”
Once the lunch is over, kids can get out and have some fun.
“We can play afterwards, and sometimes they have activities,” said Connor.
Full of smiles, and full of food, this program helps keep them fueled for a great summer.
“Thank you!” yelled Connor.
