“We’re A Family”; Park Christian Holds Prayer Vigil for Crash Victims

Sorry, this video is no longer available

The Park Christian school community is in mourning after two students died in a rollover this morning on I–94 near Fergus Falls.

A prayer vigil is being held at the school.

KVRR Sports Director Mike McCann was there and joins us live with more.

Mike?

TJ and Alison, what began as a quiet summer day at Park Chrisitan turned tragic, quickly.

Moorhead natives and PCS brothers Zach and Connor Kvalvog were on their way to a basketball camp when Zach, who was driving, veered into the shoulder, over-corrected and rolled into the westbound lane.

The community came together tonight and did its best to honor them.

It is the prayer vigil that no one ever wanted to attend…and for those that did, it still seems impossible…

Hunter Nickel, Zach’s Teammate: “I didn’t want to believe it. I said that’s not true, that’s not happening. And ah…that’s what happened…I had to wait till it was confirmed to believe it, and then I got that…and it’s been…yeah…”

Both Zach Kvalvog and his brother Connor are known for basketball around the area.

But they are remembered as so much more.

Tyrell Rodriguez, Friend: “I always saw Zach as my older brother and Connor as my little brother cause he was a year younger than me…but we’ve just always had a tight bond…”

Mike McCann, KVRR Sports Director: “Anything you to do to grieve at a time like this can often seem like its not enough, but it’s for exactly that reason that gathering together is the best way to honor the boys.”

Tyrell Rodriguez: “I’m glad that so many people showed up. To honor Zach and Connor. Cause this is what they would want. So everybody could get together and not be spread and just love each other as a family.”

Hunter Nickel: “This is what this school is for.  We’re a family here, we’re not big, we’re not small.  We’re just together, the whole way through. Through and through, we’re a family.  And that’s the biggest thing you can say about us here.”

Now guys there were two other passengers in the car with the Kvalvog brothers, both PCS students, and both are being treated for their injuries.

We’ll have more on this as it becomes available, but certainly keeping everyone at Park Christian in our thoughts and prayers.

People are writing heartfelt condolences to the family on social media.

Toni tweeted: “Heaven gained two beautiful angels today.  Sad that the good ones go too soon. I love you Connor and Zach.”

Taylor wrote “Please keep the Kvalvog family in your prayers as they lost 2 boys.”

Ryan says “Zach was a hell of a competitor and ball player. Prayers to his family and Park Christian.”

And finally Jaden simply wrote:  “R-I-P Connor and Zach Kvalvog.
