How to Stay Safe this Firework Season

The Fourth of July is next weekend, which means many people are already heading out to buy fireworks to celebrate.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford has how you can spark up the sky this Fourth while keeping safety in mind.
By state law, North Dakotans will not be able to officially buy fireworks until this Saturday.
Memory Fireworks workers are telling customers to reserve their fireworks now.
“1st, 2nd, and 3rd is going to be nuts so like I said we’re encouraging customers to come out the earlier the better that way they don’t wind up in the lines. And we can get them in and out of here fast,” says David Renter.
The fun fireworks season can also be dangerous.
Fireworks fan Paul Sorum shares one technique he uses to stay safe.
“Make sure they don’t tip over. Whatever type of areal shot you have I usually try to put mine in a little bucket of sand so they can’t tip over, and shot at the audience,” says Paul.
One firework that is often overlooked when using precaution is sparklers.
West Fargo Fire Department and fireworks stores like Memory are encouraging you to be extra cautious when using sparklers.
When lit, they can reach up to 1800 degrees
“Even with sparklers I mean people think ah, it’s just a sparkler. It’s hot enough to melt metal so it’s really hot so make sure you use them appropriately hold them away at the very end and away from your body,” says Kendel Frost of West Fargo Fire Department.
Frost also stresses that you have a water bucket or hose close, and let fireworks sit in water after you’ve used them.
They also say only buy consumer made fireworks, do not make them yourself.
And of course…
“Don’t mix alcohol and fireworks.”
