Road construction work in downtown Detroit Lakes is finishing ahead of schedule and is ready for the upcoming holiday.
People can now drive down Washington Avenue until Frazee Street which is now closed for construction. Cars can be parked on the street and access businesses.
The contractor will be providing the downtown businesses with power washing and window cleaning.
Besides the remaining construction on the street, all that’s missing is light fixtures.
“We want to get people downtown. Come on in and take a look at it it’s really kind of exciting. So it’s been a long time in the making. We’ve been working on this project, downtown merchants, the city, everybody’s been collaborating and working on plans for about three and a half years,” says city administrator Bob Louiseau.
Because the downtown portion of Washington Avenue was finished early, the contractors earned an extra $50,000.
Work continues on the Highway 10 and 59 projects around Detroit Lakes.
