Giving back to those who have gave to you is what two parents of childhood cancer survivors say why they choose a career in healthcare.

Kelsey Strahamand Katie Damm both have children who were diagnosed with cancer, but beat the odds.

Both women say they were inspired by the journey they had with their own children to work in pediatrics.

Sanford’s “Compassionate Care in Childhood Cancer: Perspective of Nurses and Parents” presentation allows the women to share their experience with Sanford colleagues.

“Definitely saw that when my son was going through treatment the fulfillment the nurses and other staff here must feel at the end of the day when they get to do something or think outside the box in order to help a family,” says Kelsey Straham Sanford Nurse.

“It was a good fit, it was where I belonged and what I wanted to do, and just be able to hang out with them and make them feel good about themselves, and forget that they were sick that’s my goal that’s what I love to do everyday,” says Katie Damm Sanford CNA.

Both women are employee’s at the Sanford Children’s Hospital.
