 U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp highlights the important role of start–ups and small businesses in North Dakota.
 
Heitkamp hosted the first senate small business committee field hearing in Fargo at the downtown library.

Local leaders gathered to discuss how the small business sector is leading job growth in the state.

Maria Contreras–Sweet with the U.S. Small Business Administration also spoke about the states thriving economy.
 
“We wanted a chance for people to hear the kinds of programs that fit with that new intellectual property kind of programs that they’re trying to develop,” said Heitkamp.
 
Leaders say some of the challenges startups can face in this area are labor shortage and internet access.
