Dreams of American Idol

Going into the last season, singers have one last shot at American Idol.

Auditions are right around the corner and one Minnesota girl is hoping to make it past the first round of auditions.

It’s not your average cafe.

While drinking your daily cup of joe, a voice rises behind the sound of a piano.

Meet Laina Nelson, she’s an employee at the cafe and just graduated high school. She plans on going to college but has one step before that, to go to American Idol.

She says she’s always been inspired by the show and the singers.

Laina Nelson said,”A lot of them, they’re from small towns and they get to take a shot. And that shot gets them where they want to go and that’s really inspiring to me because we live in Cormorant Minnesota, our mayors a dog so…”

The owners of the café say customers ask all the time about Laina as she plays live in the corner twice a week.

Owner of the shop Claudia Hanson said,”We have Laina Nelson playing and he said really that’s live?! And he was just astonished that she was actually here and she had that wonderful of a voice.

Her mother is heading with her to Denver and says her daughter’s voice is unlike any other.

Laina’s mother Teresa Nelson said, “I have a huge sense of pride! A lot of people say gosh that comes out of her she has a really strong voice and it kind of sticks with you…give me goosebumps.”

But does she have making coffee in her future.

Laina said, “As much as i like making coffee, i definitely pick singing..”

She says she wants to go in with humility, to be the girl from the small town that makes a big impact with her music.

Laina will leave this week for Denver for try outs.

We wish her the best of luck!
