It’s jam packed at the Boys and Girls Club in Detroit Lakes this summer.
The club averages 125 kids a day which is an increase of 43 children from last summer.
In just last month, the club served 4,600 meals and snacks.
This is compared to the entire summer last year where they served 7,300 meals and snacks.
The club director says the next step is to demolish the current space and build a new facility to accommodate the growth.
Club director Pat Petermann said,”We’ve been hearing it the last 3 to 4 years, we need a bigger facility. And we’re finally to a point where people want to listen why. They see the numbers, they see the number of kids that are here, the meals we’re serving, the programs we’re offering and they’re just saying we want to help how can we help.”
Club staff hope with proper funding, demolition will happen next summer.
