The girlfriend of Christopher Hampton’s victim takes the stand.
He is accused of shooting and killing his cousin, 28–year–old Randall Doehner last summer.
Stephanie Desjarlais said Doehner and Hampton were taking prescription drugs and supposedly abusing them at the time of the shooting.
This was just one part of her questioning that lasted more than 5 hours.
Stefani Desjarlais could not hold back her emotions listening to the call she made after her boyfriend went upstairs in the apartment he shared with Hampton and was shot.
“The gun shots which didn’t register to me till Randall yelled to me ‘Stef, Chris shot me’,” said Desjarlais.
Pictures of Doehner’s blood smeared across the floor, and hydrocodone crushed up on a table were pieces of evidence.
Poisoning by acid was mentioned during questioning since Hampton believed his cousin was putting it in his drinks and food.
None was found in the home.
“Randall would tell him, why would I do that, kid? I’m the only one that loves you or tries to take care of you,”said Desjarlais.
Hampton’s attorney said this was a self–defense situation.
The states attorney asked an officer who responded to the crime scene to read a statement by Hampton.
Fargo Patrol Officer Brent Malone said, “It wasn’t much of a fight, my cousin waved a gun in my face I knocked it out of his hands he came after me and then I shot him.”
Not only was Desjarlais in the home during the shooting, but so was her 6- month-old.
She also admitted to taking part in the drugs.
The trial continues tomorrow.
