Local Kids Ditch Traditional Camping

When students head off to summer camp, they usually bring swimsuits, hiking boots and sunscreen, but some students here in the metro are instead packing laptops, smartphones and digital cameras.

It’s a part of Metro Middle School Technology Camp.

More than 100 middle school students are learning about coding, photography and digital movie making.
This is the second year for the camp and it has doubled in attendance from last year.

“The kids are being creative, they are using collaboration and working within the community are the big things with 21st century skills and those are a huge area that many of the schools are now starting to focus on,” said Camp Coordinator Rob Arneson.

Our own photographer John Hanson showed some students how he gets the job done.
