Our latest Hometown Favorites Poll brings us to Tastee–Freez in Moorhead, they won the latest favorite place to get ice cream and it’s not just because of their unique recipe.
This group of people dedicates themselves to coming to Tastee–Freez on Tuesdays.
They like to call it; Tastee Tuesday’s and it’s not too hard to figure out why.
“Tastee–Freez is the best place in town to have ice cream. There’s always friendly people. Good smiles,” said Lee Schauer of Fargo.
Lee Schauer helped start the tradition.
It’s a time when you can find a lot of people from the class of ’81 just sharing a few laughs.
Fern and Duane Elofson bought the store in 1991, and it’s been around since ’63.
“It’s a feeling and it’s an experience. The nostalgia of the building, the longtime community connection,” said Fern Elofson.
They still use the recipe from when the store was opened and customers say they can’t get enough.
Tastee–Freez has been around for decades and owners say they’ve had a chance to really connect with the community.
“We’ve gotten to see several generations and that’s really cool,” said Duane Elofson.
And they spare no expense on the people that stop by.
“We use real fruits and they may cost a little more, but it’s what customers came to expect from Tastee-Freeze and we just continue it.,” said Duane Elofson.
It’s a place you can come whether you’re with a toddler, or maybe a four legged friend.
