Aber Days: Remembering History
Hundreds of people from throughout the valley made their way to Abercrombie to celebrate the regions history and its role in the civil war.
Blacksmithing is a centuries old tradition used to make everyday items.
Michael Quade of South Dakota is at Aber Days helping spread the word about its importance.
“It’s important to remember the struggle that people really went through you know, to manufacture simple everyday items,” said Quade.
Aber Days is a time to celebrate the regions history.
Local historical fiction authors came to talk about their work and how places like Fort Abercrombie were used.
“They’re basically here to protect the wagon trains heading west, steam boat traffic on the river going up to Fort Garry at Winnipeg,” said Fort Abercrombie Site Supervisor Lenny Krueger.
Lois Berndt of Wahpeton is a genealogist who appreciates events that celebrate the area’s past.
“It is an important part in our countries history and people are just not aware of the founding of this area,” said Berndt.
It’s a time to remember the past and celebrate the present.
The Fort Abercrombie Men’s Group provided music for the day’s presentations.
