School District Asks for $68 Million Dollar Bond: Will it Pass?

A big price tag is set for a school bond referendum in Detroit Lakes.
Voters in Detroit lakes will decide in November 3rd if a $68 million bond referendum will pass for a new middle school, improvements on the high school and converting the middle school into the elementary.
The tax impact is broken down to last the next 20 years.
Officials say with construction costs it’s the best time for the vote to pass.
Detroit Lakes Superintendent Doug Froke said, “The time to do this is now, in consort with the fact that interest rates are low. Some would even say they’re at a historic low and we just don’t know how long it will be available to us.”
Two other items on the ballot include adding a performing center to the high school and a new swimming pool.
