Moorhead School Construction: Any Good News?
Sorry, this video is no longer available
Thousands of students will be making their way back into classrooms within the next month.
Multiple schools in Moorhead have been under construction.
Will they be ready?
Construction definitely isn’t going to be done here at Reinertsen on the gymnasium before doors open for students.
So with school around the corner what will construction be like at Moorhead Public Schools.
Rachel Alderson asked her son Caleb,”Do you not get much time in the gym or what? “
Caleb replied, “Not really, much time in the gym.”
Alderson asked, “So it’ll be nice to have another gym? “
“Yeah,” Caleb said.
Walls are going up at Reinertsen Elementary gym but for kids they’ll have to wait since it won’t be done until next year.
Parents like the new facility but would rather have additional classrooms for learning (other than the music rooms that will be done in October.)
“Well I get it too. They need gym like the kids need more space too and it would be nice to have more classrooms, just so that there’s less kids per class. But, that means more teachers and it also equals more money so it’s probably a catch–22,”said Alderson.
And there are more kids than ever. More than 500 kindergartners will take over Probstfield Center and construction is expected to be done by the time students arrive.
There is also good news for parents! changes have been made at Hopkins, Horizon and Reinertsen when it comes to parking like adding additional lanes to cut down on the traffic.
Assistant Superintendent Brandon Lunak said,”At one school it got so crazy at one school our principal was directing traffic to help people get in and out.”
The school board is hoping for a $78 million dollar bond vote to pass for a new elementary school, additions to Horizon Middle and security upgrades for all the schools.
“The capacity continues to grow and as we fill up those elementary schools that bubble will move into the middle schools so it becomes critical,”said Lunak.
The vote for the bond will be November 3rd. It would mean an extra $105 a year on a $150,000 property.
