Record Heat Sweeps Valley; Pools In Fargo Closed

The Red River Valley is experiencing some of the highest temperatures of the summer, just in time for some pools in Fargo to close.
Some opinions here in the metro are mixed about the heatwave making its way through the valley.
“I’m excited, I’m glad it’s not 90 below. Our temperature swing here makes these days a total privilege. I’m lucky, I have an air conditioned house and car so I say that,” said Veronica Michael of Fargo.
“I think it’s going to be a test of the will, but I think it’s going to be kind of luxurious to give us that last bit of inspiration to enjoy summer and get out and do something fun,” said Constance Pearson of Fargo.
Temperatures will be the warmest of the summer.
We hit 93 this afternoon, surpassing the hottest day of the year at 92.
But with the weather getting warmer, why is it that some pools in Fargo are closed?
Most lifeguards are student athletes who are already back in school.
“Park officials say this is a common issue they have every year, and with so many people leaving for school activities, they don’t have many other choices.”
“It happens in all of our positions this time of year; you know not just pools but all of our golf courses, our maintenance staff,” said Dave Klundt with the Fargo Park District.
The only open pools are in Island Park and Davies, and staff were consolidated to these two pools.
“For days coming up like this. I wish we were open until about the middle of September, because it can be a scorcher and having a little bit of pool relief is better than your kiddie pool in your backyard,’ said Michael.
And with the heatwave just beginning, many in the valley will be looking to cool off in the two remaining Fargo public pools.
The Davies pool will be open until Sunday and the Island Park pool will be open until the 25th.
