Minnesota County Ugliest In U.S.?

A county right here in our viewing area has been named as the worst place to live in America, according to the Washington Post.
It comes after the USDA released a map showing where the counties are with the most and least natural beauty.
“A survey by the USDA reveals that the least desirable place to live in the entire United States is right here in Red Lake County, Minnesota.”
“Shocked and could not believe that anybody would come up with that,” said Sharon DuPont of Red Lake Falls.
DuPont was born and raised in Red Lake County.
She’s very surprised the county came up as the place with the least amount of natural beauty.
“Are you kind of at a loss for words?” asked the reporter.
“Yes,” said DuPont.
“How come?” asked the reporter.
“Because I love this town. It’s beautiful, it’s kind of like a Norman Rockwell town with kids playing, and music they have good band and schools,” said DuPont.
The USDA has a natural amenities scale that rates counties by physical characteristics.
Red Lake County scored dead last. and the Red River Valley wasn’t much higher.
“I guess by their standards, they chose us. Obviously they never came here and seen our community because it’s certainly not going to be last on the list if they’d ever do that,” said Red Lake Falls Mayor Kevin Harmoning.
On my drive through the county, there wasn’t too much to see until I got into town; so I found a way to entertain myself.
Norbert Ritchot travels with his family regularly to the area.
“I’m quite surprised, because if this is considered dead last, I’d be amazed to see what’s even better,” said Ritchot of St-Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba.
And I couldn’t find anyone who would disagree.
“There’s like really pretty stuff here. If you go around the bike trails and stuff, there’s flowers going everywhere and they’re not planted, they’re natural,” said Courtney Piersol of Red Lake Falls.
“The county with the least amount of natural beauty in America is a title that may be misleading, especially if you haven’t been here.”
Red Lake Falls was one of the top contenders for our Town Of The Year award.
