Back to school time is just around the corner, and incoming MSUM students are beginning to settle in.
MSUM hosted its annual freshmen move in day to welcome students.
Here is KVRR’s Brittany Ford.
It is one of the hardest days for parents and the most exciting for incoming freshmen.
College move-in day.
President Anne Blackhurst says that it’s one of her favorite times of the year.
“It does happen every year, it’s kind of a right of passage for us, but the excitement never wears off for me. I always feel kind of as giddy and excited as probably as some of our new students,” said President Anne Blackhurst.
Parents, students, and move-in baskets taking over much of the campus… making sure no box was left behind.
Over 800 freshmen are moving into the dorms to call MSUM their home for the next four years.
Lindsey Herda is from Landsdale, Minnesota.
She says the most exciting part about move in day is her new found independence.
“Excited to see what it’s like living on your own, and trying to figure things out when you realize mom and dad aren’t there to make dinner tonight, and you got to figure it out yourself,” said Linsey.
Her parents, Bonnie and Jerry, both have different takes on seeing their only child fly the nest.
“I told her she has to text me three times a week so I can keep track of her at least,” said Jerry Herda.
“Everything in the vehicle was packed and she’s ready for the next chapter of her life. We’re happy for her,” said Bonnie Herda.
They did agree on what they say will probably be the first phone call.
“She’ll call us when she needs help or money.”
MSUM’s official first day of classes is Monday.
