Rally For “North Dakota” As UND Nickname
Some in the Grand Forks area are rallying to put “North Dakota” back on the list as UND’s nickname.
The heavy rainfall in Grand Forks didn’t stop “North Dakota” supporters from rallying to keep the name in the running.
Many say that the name was unfairly removed and that it was one of the most popular choices.
The rally was organized by “The Sioux Were Silenced” group.
The rally also called for the immediate resignation of UND President Robert Kelly.
“We want to make sure that “North Dakota” is put back on the list of names. That was the most popular choice besides the Sioux name, and that’s what we want back on the list of names so people can have a fair choice and their chance of voting on it,” said “North Dakota” Nickname Supporter Eunice Davidson.
“We want to have this process stopped and started by the new administration when that happens. Yeah, we’d like to see Kelly leave now since he’s already resigned. We see no reason for him to stick around,” said Kevin Riley with “The Sioux Were Silenced.”
The Sioux Were Silenced say they simply want an opportunity for “North Dakota” to be the next nickname.
