The first day of school is filled with excitement, but it is so much more when it’s at a brand new building.

KVRR’s Brittany Ford has how students celebrated their first day at the newly built Ed Clapp Elementary.

Dressed to impress, over 500 students entered the doors of Ed Clapp Elementary for the first time.

The school is the newest addition to the Fargo Public School District.

Parents dropping off their kids say the excitement of the first day had them up before the sun came up.

“Well one was up at 5:30 so she was ready. I think that nobody wanted to really eat breakfast it’s like we were late, no,” said Parent Teran Harmon.

It can be nerve-racking starting at a new school.

One parent shared it is comforting to know that each student is experiencing the same thing.

“He’s been looking forward to the new school and just first grade in general, and since were starting a new school it’s nice that it’s new for everyone today,” said parent Jessica Sondreal.

Students and parents were most excited to break in a brand new school.

“How excited are you? Very excited,” said Kindergartner Bentley Brown.

“What do you think you’re going to do on your first day of school? Play with friends. Make new friends,” said first grader Hustin Sondreal.

After the school bell rang, kids started their day stating the pledge of allegiance along with the pledge of Ed Clapp.

Principal Jennifer Schuldheisz says the pledge is a way to remind students the importance of leadership.

“We just want to empower students to truly develop their unique strengths, and talents. Find their passions, and be able to share it with others,” said Principal at Ed Clapp Jennifer Schuldheisz.

Students attending the school will be known as the Ed Clapp Explorers.

Explorers who are making their way through a new school year.
