Homeowners in Fargo will be able to keep more money in their pockets when it comes to property taxes.

The Fargo City Commission approved a $1 million dollar property tax cut to its 2016 city budget.

City Commissioner Tony Gehrig has been pushing for the cut since he took office in early April.

He says the cut will allow more potential home owners to buy.

“It’s a really historic number we’ve never reduced property taxes at one time in that amount. So it wasn’t everything that we wanted, but it was a definite compromise. It got voted on unanimously which is also a good thing and the people in Fargo should see the reduction in 2016,” says Gehrig.

Gehrig had originally pushed for a 20 percent reduction.
