Labor Day Driving Delays in the Metro

The holiday weekend has arrived and many people are already on the crowded roads.
If you’re headed to the lake, cities, or just staying in town, road work will cause you somewhat of a headache.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford has what you need to know.
Besides all the extra travelers on the road this Labor Day weekend, construction and road closures will force drivers to take alternative routes.
In Fargo there are two main detours to look out for.
“2nd Street, here that’s a part of the flood wall work we closed down. Kind of a quick hitter is 10th Street just from 7th Avenue to 8th Avenue North we had to do some water and sewer ties for a private residential company.”
“Fargo city engineers are saying 2nd Avenue will be the longest street detour.”
“There we’ll be tearing up the whole entire road from 1st Avenue to 3rd, and that’s going to force the closure through winter,” says Jeremy Gordon of Fargo Transportation Engineer.
Drivers looking to cross The Village Green Boulevard Railroad tracks have to use an alternate route. It will be closed on Sunday and Monday so that the railroad crossing surface can be replaced by BNSF.
Jesi Grosfield of Fargo says learning alternate routes is a way of life in Fargo.
“In the three years I’ve definitely tried to learn side streets, and just non main freeways because I don’t like to deal with traffic and the detours are a pain,” says Grosfield.
She says she is glad that she will working this holiday weekend and can avoid the hectic roads.
“I’m actually really excited that I don’t have to deal with the traffic. I live close to work and I plan to go to work and just avoid driving in general,” she says.
