It’s a “living museum” that steam thresher lovers from across the nation drive to see each Labor Day weekend.

KVRR’s Brittany Ford has what the 62nd Annual Western Minnesota Steam Thresher Reunion is featuring this year.

Dating as far back as 1940, the western Minnesota Steam Thresher Reunion embraces the region’s agricultural past.

“Emphasis word reunion right on the end. We’ve got a number of members that only see each other this time of the year. Everybody gets together has a good time, and there’s a number of visitors that come back every year. This is a big labor day event for them,” says Mark Kerkvliet, Steam Threshers President.

Each year, the organization showcases one particular trade.

“This year’s feature is blacksmithing and fair banks moose engines.”

This is Shane Webber and his family’s second time at the reunion.

They couldn’t cover all 210 acres last year so they came back to finish where they left off.

“It’s fascinating to see the technology how it’s developed over 100 years and the enormous machines. The people here love it. It’s their hobby and they want to show it to us,” says Webber.

Roger cook has been a blacksmith for 20 years.

He says he is excited to showcase his best work at the reunion.

“When you start getting good and you start making something that really looks pretty. That’s a lot of achievement for yourself its good feeling,” sad

All of the proceeds from the four day event go towards upkeep and maintaining the steam thresher grounds, and keeping the organization alive.
