In 20 different languages, five new peace poles stand outside Lutheran Social Services with one message: May peace prevail on earth.

It’s International Peace Day, and community members from several countries shared first–hand accounts of what peace means to them.

For one woman, peace to her is not having to wait 23 years to give her mother a proper burial.

Another says help from the community, even just through words is peace to him.

“This is maybe one of the few chances I’ve ever had in my life to speak up and speak freely in front of other people. Maybe at a point of time in my life I was not allowed to speak like that,” says Zakaria of the Kurdistan Region

The five new peace poles will now be among 17 in the community and several around the state.
