With the UND nickname vote set for next month, we want to know what alumni think of the options.
UND Alumni are just as a passionate as current students about the future of the school’s new nickname.
We spoke with alumni of all ages who say they will be making sure that they’re opinions is accounted for when the voting takes place.
So what will it be?
Roughriders, North Stars, Fighting Hawks, NoDaks, or Sundogs?
UND Alumni are weighing in.
Richard Quesnell is a 1946 UND alumni, and also goes by a nickname.
“My nickname is Diddy, Diddy Do It Diddy Did It,” said Richard Quesnell of the class of 1946.
We asked him just what his nickname preference was, and he didn’t have to think twice.
“I think that the total change should be the NoDaks, but bet I will,” said Richard Quesnell 1946 UND Alumni.
He has been followed by generations of grandchildren who are all UND graduates, and says they will also be following his vote.
“And as far as they’re concerned they kinda agree with the old man; Nodaks,” said Richard Quesnell 1946 UND Alumni.
Older Alumni may be all about the NoDaks, but some younger graduates we spoke to seem to be all about the fighting hawks.
“I’m not really a Nodak fan, because what the heck is a Nodak. So not a big fan of that I’m more a fan of fighting hawks. So if I have to vote that that’s the one I’m going to go toward,” said Victor Meza, 2004 UND Graduate.
Katie Anderson graduated in 2013 just after the school lost its Fighting Sioux nickname.
She says she is going for vote for the fighting hawks, because it has a familiar ring to it.
“I’m going to be voting for the fighting hawks, because I don’t know I like the way it sounds, but it will always be Sioux in my heart so,” said Katie Anderson 2013 UND graduate.
The online voting is set to begin at 8am on October 16 and close at midnight Friday October 23rd.
UND expects to announce the voting results by the last week of October.
