Anyone who has seen the pictures from Friday’s accident can say it is miracle that everyone survived.
The heroic acts of bus driver Cathy Jostad were recognized and honored at the vigil, as the community is continuing to come together hoping for her full recovery.
The singing of an old time childhood church song comforts and touches the hearts of those who pray for Cathy’s recovery.
Cathy was the was driver of a school bus that collided with three semis in dense fog last week.
Since Friday, she has had to have both legs amputated in order to save her life.
“She’s a strong lady, and she’s got a good heart she’s always shown that in how she treats others, and now she’s using that strength for herself,” says Laura Schwab, Cathy’s daughter.
The community shows their unity by wearing Kindred’s school color of blue.
Kathy’s daughter, Laura, shared that it’s moments like these that show the moral of living in a small community.
“One of those things where your friends and neighbors are just looking to let you know how much they love you and care about you and that they’ve got your back that their rooting for you,” says Laura.
The vigil wasn’t limited to just community members and neighbors.
Fellow bus drivers showed up to show their support.
“Drivers drove up from other school districts that was pretty emotional for me, just to show their support for each other and for us, and there not even from here that amazing to me,” says Kerri Whittle, one of the vigil organizers.
The vigil concluded with children having a chance to physically lift up their prayers through a balloon release.
Laura says it will take two things to help her mother reach the victory of the recovery.
Prayer and patience hopefully in a year we will have a marvelous story of healing to tell you.
If you didn’t have the chance to attend the vigil and would like to show support, you can stop by Kindred and decorate a tree, light post or mailbox with blue fabric or ribbon.
There also has been an account created for Cathy at the Kindred State Bank to help with medical expenses.
