Taking Parents to School at Carl Ben Eielson

Parents show students they aren’t too cool for school as they replaced their kids at Carl Ben Eielson for a day.

More than 50 parents sat in desks, took notes, and took part in classroom activities in place of their child.

The students were encouraged to go to work with their other parent or volunteer in the community.

Parents say it is a good way to show their kids they genuinely want to know their daily routine in the classroom.

“I think it’s really important for the kids to know that the parents are interested in what they’re doing. You know, if we can get the parents to come in here and spend the day doing what they’re doing, I think they get a sense that we care,”says Mindy Donovan, a parent of a sixth grader.

This is Carl Ben Eielson’s ninth year holding the program.
