The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is moving.
“For me as sheriff, and leader of this organization of 200 hundred plus people is that I’m going to have a big chunk of my staff all under one roof for once,” said Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney.
A word of relief from Sheriff Paul Laney as the Cass County Commission has approved the purchase of what was once the Armed Forces Reserve Center north of the Fargo Air Museum to become the county’s new sheriff headquarters.
The facility will solve current overcrowding, and allow room for growth.
“We’re crammed in like sardines just about everywhere we are, and this is going to allow us not only to ease some of this pressure put all of us under one roof, it’s also going to give us room for growth for up to 15 to 20 years,” said Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney.
The 2500 square foot building came with a price tag of $1.2 million dollars.
A huge price cut compared to the $14.7 million dollar project the county was previously considering for building on to the jail.
However, things won’t change for deputies whose work is tied to the courthouse.
There will still be a presence of deputies at the Cass County Courthouse including the civil process and warrant units.
Laney says patrol and investigations will mainly occupy the new building.
An employee at the nearby Homewood Suites by Hilton isn’t complaining about having law enforcement across the street.
“It does make me feel safer that they’re going to be right there. They can respond quicker, and they’re going to be protecting everyone around here a lot more so that’s good. I like that,” says Justin Anders, of Homewood Suites By Hilton.
With a little TLC that will go into remodeling the interior of the building, staff hopes to move in early next year.
The remodeling of the building is estimated to cost around $800,000.
