Think Road Construction Season is Over? Think Again!

If you think the arrival of fall means the end of construction season…think again.

In West Fargo, roads are still blocked off as crews race against the clock to finish projects before winter hits.

“We got projects from the north side of town to the south side of town, east and west. They’re everywhere.”

Drivers are still seeing plenty of orange cones in West Fargo.

Along with the cones, local resident Jesse Hayden sees a longer commute to class.

“About 20 minutes earlier. Some days it’s really bad, says Hayden.

The city of West Fargo is working on a variety of projects, the biggest one being a reconstruction of 32nd Avenue East.

“We’re widening the lanes there to be installing signal lights this year,” says Chris Brungardt, West Fargo Public Works Director.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is busy with its own project.

Rebuilding Main Avenue between I–94 and Morrison Street.

Traffic is reduced to two lanes.

“Total reconstruct with new drainage facilities, city and water,” says Justin Oss, North Dakota DOT.

“Construction is what it is. In order to have infrastructure you have to keep it in good repair. If you let it fall into disrepair people will complain far worse,” says driver Khris Raub.

“Drivers may complain of congested streets and blocked off roads, but city leaders say it’s all part of a larger, more positive development in the west Fargo community.”

“Growth is always a great problem, and a lot of large ticket items always go along with growth. A lot of congestion, a lot of road work.”

And the new, built up roads should be ready for traffic soon.

32nd Avenue will be opening on Monday the 19th.

With Main Street returning to normal by mid-November.

When winter closeout comes they will be in their respective lanes. Two lanes of traffic eastbound, and two lanes of traffic westbound.

For drivers, that’s what makes the delays and the headaches worth it.

“Not having a road at all would cause infinite delays, so no I have no problem with it.”
