UND is celebrating its 10-year partnership with a Japanese university.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford talked with one Tokai student who is sharing his experience in the program.
“I’m grateful for this partnership otherwise I would have to go to other colleges in the United States also,” said Kentaro Sasahara a Student of Tokai University.
For Tokai students like Kentaro the partnership with UND as an aviation partner has provided the chance to make his dream of becoming a pilot that much more real.
“School and education you receive here is second to none around the world, so I think a lot of people and a lot of schools, companies, look to Grand Forks when they think aviation,” said Chuck Pineo UND Aerospace Foundation.
Since the partnership began in 2005 up to 60 Tokai Students each year spend 15-months at UND as they train to become commercial pilots.
UND says the 10 year celebration is a milestone they are proud of.
“I think that the people from Tokai and the students that come here enjoy the community enjoy the university and go on to have a successful career in aviation,”Chuck Pineo UND Aerospace Foundation.
One Tokai Student says the opportunity to be exposed to different people, places, and things has been the best part of the experience.
“Not only aviation stuff but also I can learn different cultures and stuff. Actually, I belong to the tennis club of UND as well and I also get to meet local people,” said Kentaro Sasahara a Student of Tokai University.
Since the partnership began more than 2-hundred students from Tokai have gone through the program. KVRR News Brittany Ford.
