New North Dakota License Plates

North Dakota Department of Transportation introduces new state license plates.

This is the first new design in two decades.

The “sunrise plates” will replace the old “buffalo plates.”

The plates keep the state’s nickname, the Peace Garden State, but replaces “Discover the Spirit” with “Legendary”.

Numbers will come first on the new plates and they’ll be flat and easier to read.

“In the evening, you’ll never see the number. You can probably barely see it here today, the numbers are starting to wear off and it’s very difficult to read,” says North Dakota Department of Transportation Director, Grant Levi.

All general issue plates are expected to be replaced within a year and a half.
