Is Your Pet Considered a Family Member? You May Want to Invest in Pet Insurance

We’ve all heard of home insurance, car insurance, but now pet insurance is becoming the new normal, but is it worth it?

For pet owners, nine times out of ten you treat them as you would your own children.

When you’re furry loved one gets sick, many don’t realize how quickly the costs can add up.

According to American Pet Products Association pet owners spent an estimated $15 billion on veterinary care in 2014.

Rob Jackson, CEO of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance says having coverage allows pet owners to never have to compromise cost for quality of care.

“Veterinary care can be very very expensive, and the last thing you want to do is have to have your check book dictate the veterinary care that you can provide for your four legged friends,” Jackson says.

Gus is an eight-year-old pug here in Fargo. His owner says pet insurance would have made her life a whole easier.

“The unexpected things that come up like when I got him I didn’t realize that he would need to have teeth removed, and all the other ones cleaned, or that he would get infections,”says Gus’s owner.

At the end of the day pet owners say when it comes to unexpected vet expenses it’s always better to be safe or than sorry.

So how does it work? Pet insurance is similar to health insurance; you pay a deductible and a monthly coverage fee.

When shopping for pet insurance experts say you should always check the fine print.

“A lot of fine print and a lot of restrictions it’s very important that when you’re assessing, and choosing the right pet health provider, pet health insurance partner that you do your homework on them,” says Jackson

Jackson says sites like PetInsuranceRreview.com and ConsumerAdvocate.org are good resources to use when browsing for pet insurance.
