Fargo Hosts Special Olympics State Conference

Special Olympics of North Dakota is training this weekend, but it’s not for athletics.

Volunteers, athletes, coaches and students filled the Ramada for its annual state conference and banquet. This year’s conference will focus on bringing inclusion into the sport. The program wants to have more sport opportunities for both people with and without disabilities, and hopes that concept will carry over into the community.

“So those are all things that happen in life, we just happen to use that vehicle of sport and focus on people of intellectual disabilities. So we can get them on the same playing field as people without,” says Kathy Meagher, President and CEO of Special Olympics North Dakota.

Athletes will spend their weekend training to be public speakers to carry on the message of Special Olympics. Tonight’s awards banquet will honor all those going above and beyond for the organization.
