Voters Hit the Polls Deciding West Fargo Referendum’s Fate
The West Fargo School district is in need of new schools, and other improvements to keep up with current enrollment numbers.
Voters we spoke to say at the end of the day, it’s all about the kids.
“I’m supporting the West Fargo referendum bond,” says voter Donna Lemar.
Donna is a retired educator and has grandchildren in the school district.
She says she will be voting yes for them and appreciates that it will come at no cost.
“I heard the report that it would not cost me additional money…just was my time to come out and say this is important,” says Lemar.
“I’m voting yes for our kids,” says voter Erin Mauriello referendum supporter.
Mauriello moved to the area from Virginia three years ago.
She says the district’s proactive effort is something she isn’t use to.
“Coming from the east coast, they don’t do that so I’m really impressed with the school system here, and I want my child to be able to have smaller classroom sizes, and have the new facilities,” says Mauriello.
Others say voting is an important way to exercise your rights.
“It’s our right to vote. We should vote. It affects us no matter what if we vote or not. So we should come out and do it so that our voice is heard,” says voter Michael Severson.
As a first time voter and senior at Sheyenne High School, Alexandria Stroh says she is voting yes because has seen overcrowding first hand.
“In the next few years just how many students will be coming…and I think this would be the perfect way through my experience to show my views, and hopefully make a difference about it,” says Alexandria.
A difference that will affect the future of education in West Fargo.
