UND Campus Police Promote Free Firearm Storage Service

As hunting season is underway, UND campus police are bringing awareness to firearm safety.

The university offers free firearm storage for students and faculty.

The service was put in place 15 years ago after the campus experienced multiple car break-ins and gun thefts.

The 24-hour storage facility holds up to 108 weapons including bows, shot guns, and hand guns.

UND police say the service is offered year-round, but this is usually their busiest season.

“We probably range from an average of about 40 to 50, but of course the peak is always Fall when hunting sports, bird season and then deer season in November. So we see an increase in the fall with shotguns, and rifles,” said Capt. Tracy Meidinger of UND Campus Police.
