Detroit Mountain Prepping for Ski Season
Detroit Mountain is working on the final touches before it opens next week.
“Well we’re prepping up for White Friday, which we do every year. So we want to be open the day after thanksgiving. Get people out and active. So that’s what we’re all about,” says general manager, Jeff Staley.
After ten years of the mountain being closed, it reopened last year, with the support of the community.
“I think it should be really good for the whole town and the whole area to get it back up and running. Get everyone up here and have some enjoyment,” says Detroit Lakes resident, Kurt Holland.
An enjoyment that many who grew up nearby missed.
“A whole generation gap has missed out on something in our backyard. So you got generation me and my kids coming out. So it’s good to see them all come out,” says rental manager, Tony Schmitz.
The ski resort has one goal. To focus on making sure the place is set for next week.
“Making sure all the trails are ready to go. We just installed a new magic carpet in our learn to ski area. We’re getting the final touches on that. Little loose ends here and there but for the most part we’re ready to open the doors wide,” says Staley.
Detroit Mountains added more skis and snow boots to their inventory. They also added fat bikes for this winter fun.
“Something no other ski area has is winter fat bikes. So we’ll have our bike trails open this winter and renting fat bikes,” says Staley.
“We already have some people already out enjoying the snow. Riding the trails, so yeah it’s exciting,” says Schmitz.
