Finding A Forever Home

National Adoption Day helps to finalize nearly 5,000 adoptions worldwide, including 12 children right here in Fargo.

Troy and Kristin Durham planned on just having two kids, but soon two kids led to four, and then four led to six.

“All of the sudden the two little girls came into our house through foster care. We fell in love with them, we couldn’t turn them away and we couldn’t kick them out that’s for sure,” says Troy Durham of Fargo.

And after falling in love with a little guy named Mannix, six is now seven.

“Then he came into our house and same thing we just fell in love with him,” says Troy.

Mannix has always been a part of the family. But as of 9:30 A.M it became official. Little Mannix is now Mannix Durham, a blessing they say can only come from fostering.

“It’s a big step but it’s something that you will never regret,” says Kristin Durham.

As 12 children walk away today with their new forever families, 36 in North Dakota are still looking for a permanent home.

“I think the stories that really hit home for us are some of the older kids, the kids that experienced living in their birth home prior to coming into foster care,” says Adults Adopting Special Kids Supervisor Sonja McLean.

“Life is not just about what we see in our homes, but there are kids out there that need loving homes all over the place,” says Troy.

“It’s way bigger than who we are. It’s definitely a blessing,” adds Kristin.

It’s a blessing that the Durhams and other families celebrated as balloons filled the sky outside the Courthouse.

A celebration ending in the memory of the 36 kids still looking for that blessing.
