Shop Safe this Holiday Season: Guard Your Packages
The holiday season means more shoppers and can also mean more thieves.
Despite the chaos of Black Friday, the holiday shopping season is far from over and police have a few suggestions to keep your valuables safe.
It can be easy to get caught up in the holiday shopping madness and while holiday car thieves haven’t hit Fargo yet, the season isn’t over.
“Possibilities are out there people might try to take advantage of people leaving valuables in their vehicles,” says Sgt. Mark Lykken of Fargo PD.
Mike Hanson of West Fargo isn’t letting his guard down.
“We always cover things up and stick things underneath seats and stuff like that so visibly speaking if you look through the window you really wouldn’t see anything,” says Mike Hanson of West Fargo.
“The best way to keep your items safe is to keep them out of sight. If you need to leave something in the car leave it in the trunk and make sure to cover it up.”
“If you see somebody trying to get into a car or not acting like they belong, give us a call right away,” says Sgt. Lykken.
“When I came to Fargo there wasn’t a lot of crime 13 years ago but with any city there is crime so I do I think that you should lock your stuff up,” says Rachel Stone of Fargo.
It’s a simple message lock your belongings. But when it comes to a misplaced purse or wallet police want to know right away.
“You need to call us as soon as you can because we have means where we can possibly find your stolen item,” says Sgt. Lykken.
“There’s still a lot of good people out there obviously you always have to expect there’s going to be a couple bad apples in the basket,” says Hanson.
Sgt. Lykken says police track statistics on stolen purses and wallets. He says the sooner they know the easier it is to track down your item.
