Pharmacy Theft Suspect Former Sanford Employee

West Fargo Police is charging a now former Sanford employee with felony burglary for breaking in to a pharmacy Tuesday night.

Jacob Steven Metcalf was an employee at the Sanford Clinic next door to the Prescription Shop where he broke in. The employee used his badge to get into the Sanford Clinic but could not get access into the pharmacy. He triggered the alarm when he broke the glass door. West Fargo Police say he returned to the premise once the alarm was disabled. Detective Tim Runcorn says Xanax, Ambien and Hydrocodone were taken.

“I think it’s someone who probably has an addiction to some painkillers and just found another way to get them,” says  Detective Runcorn.

Sanford Health released this statement about Metcalf, stating, “Jacob Metcalf is no longer with Sanford; his employment was terminated today. He was a Lab Technician Assistant from April 21th 2014– Dec 4th, 2015.”

Officials say Metcalf has been cooperative at this time. The cost of the stolen medications and broken door is still being investigated.
