There may not be enough snow for a White Christmas right now, but that could change with winter approaching.
We have been seeing some above average temperatures for this time of year so people haven’t had to worry too much about driving in winter conditions.
With a forecast for snow this weekend, the North Dakota Highway Patrol is urging motorists to be careful.
They say this year more than 120 people have died in traffic crashes in North Dakota.
This holiday season the North Dakota Highway Patrol is reminding people to drive safely by wearing your seatbelt, putting the cell phone down and never drinking and driving.
Officials say it’s important to make sure snow plowers can see you as well.
“Drive courteous. Use your headlights. It really helps the snow plow operators when your headlights are on so they can see you. There’s a lot of blind spots on a snow plow so the more visible you are the more the more it helps us,” said NDDOT Fargo Maintenance Superintendent Kent Leysring.
Information about the road conditions can be found by dialing 511 or using www.dot.nd.gov.
Throughout the end of the year, troopers plan to continue strictly enforcing traffic laws to keep people safe.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation and the North Dakota Highway Patrol have issued a travel alert for northeastern North Dakota because of snow and ice covered roads.
