Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Returns

The Red River Valley is used to trains, but one train has been attracting crowds across the country.

Kids line the tracks: waiting, looking, hoping for the sound that means one thing,

the Canadian Pacific Train is here.

And for the community of Detroit Lakes, that means families aren’t going hungry this holiday season.

“We’ll be able to buy a significant amount of food,” says Becker County Food Pantry Director, John Berenz.

The Canadian Pacific Train travels the country helping raise money for food pantries along the way.

A need that isn’t going away.

“We distributed food to 141 families in one day,” says Berenz.

And as most of the kids gaze in awe at the decorated train cars,

“He loves trains so we brought him to see the holiday train,” says Kirsten Rasmussen of Moorhead.

Nine–year old Jackson is handling business. The past few months Jackson has sold bracelets, giving all his money to the Food Bank.

“That’s quite a project for a young fella really it is,” says Berenz.

But even with the colorful train cars and Christmas tunes, Berenz knows that’s not the only reason there’s such a big crowd.

“They’re here and they’re here for us. They’ll get maybe half an hour worth of entertainment and then they’ll be on their way. But at the same time they’re dropping off food here and they’re dropping off money in the donation box,” says Berenz.

Just another reminder,

“People are good they really are,” says Berenz.

For some extra holiday cheer.
