No Business Like Snow Business

Snow business is good business for a number of merchants here in the Valley.

This snow is as good as gold for a variety of local businesses.

After a pretty dry winter so far, it’s a welcomed sight.

Tonight will be a busy night.

Twenty snow plow crews are ready to take off from All Terrain Lawn Care and Landscape.

With an estimated 3-6 inches of snow on the way, they’ll be busy.

“We’ll run crews most all through the night, and I expect all through most of tomorrow, and then send everybody out Wednesday night so everything is cleared by Thursday morning,” said Matt Langemo of All Terrain Lawn Care and Landscape.

Other businesses want people to use the snow instead of simply getting rid of it.

“It’s just something to do. Helps break up the winter. Gives you something to look forward to everyday,” says Craig Benson of Paramount Sports.

Paramount Sports is busy outfitting locals for winter skiing and biking.

“Getting ready to answer a bunch of phone calls. Getting people to come in,” said Benson.

Here at Paramount Sports, sales have been pretty steady throughout the fall and winter.  But with the first big snow coming, they’re expecting a huge uptick in ski sales in the coming days.

“Lots of sales,” said Benson.  “It’ll really kick winter into gear.”

The lack of snow so far this season has had a negative economic impact…

“Has admittedly made things a little tight around here,” said Langemo.

For business owners, they hope the trend reverses, and we see a white winter from here on out.

“Bad roads are pretty good for business,” said Benson.

Langemo goes on to say, “We need a lot more white to come before we see green in our eyes.”

Ski sales have been slower than normal with the mild winter.

But, sales of fat bikes made for the snow have increased enough to offset slow ski sales for sporting goods stores.
