Temps May Drop but Propane Sales Heat Up

Thanks to the cold weather, a propane distributor is finally seeing business pick up.

Propane distributors had a slower fall season due to some extra warm temps but the cold weather is making up for it.

Prices are remaining steady.

Distributors saw a spike in propane prices back in 2013 when a gallon of propane sold for six bucks.

Silbernagel’s Propane in Moorhead even closed for a week.

Now, the shop sells propane for just two dollars a gallon. Many shops have even been cutting prices due to a propane glut.

“I still have other expenses to cover like insurance taxes utilities, maintenance and all that so I’m not going to try and give it away just to be the cheapest guy in town,” says Silbernagel’s Propane owner, Jim Silbernagel.

Silbernagel says business picks up again come camping and grilling season.

He says tailgaters have also helped business just within the past five years.
