Can Hypnosis Break Your Bad Habits?

For many of us, breaking bad habits can be difficult, but can the power of suggestion help you?

A counseling service in East Grand Forks says hypnosis may be just what you need.

“By and large there’s a lot of skepticism  — and there ought to be because people’s familiarity with hypnosis tends to be from the stage.  Stage hypnosis is just very, very different from clinical hypnosis,” said Terry DeMars, owner of Healing Influences Hypnosis in East Grand Forks.

For some people, traditional methods can help them change unwanted behavior.

DeMars says there’s one, big key in making hypnosis work for a potential client.

“To believe in their ability to make change.  I like to work with people – motivating them with highly personal kinds of things that you find out about during an extensive interview, DeMars added.

But for some people, it might take a little hypnosis to get them to change their minds.

“I think in a sense not necessarily like dragging a chain in front of their eyes, but I think if you repeat stuff to them and get to their subconscious in a way, then you can kind of persuade them to do anything,” Anna Helfrich, a Grand Forks resident.

Others say it might work for some, but they’re not falling for it.

“I cannot be hypnotized, so for me it does not work, but I do believe that there are people out there that it does work for and that it is a very positive tool,” added Paul Gould, another Grand Forks resident.

A positive tool that could have you on the road to a healthier lifestyle.
