Radon: The Silent Killer

22,000 lung cancer deaths in the U.S. are related to radon each year.

North Dakota health officials are encouraging people to test their homes for the gas.

Many call radon the silent killer because it can’t be seen, smelled or tasted.

Home inspectors around the Red River Valley are seeing dangerous levels of radon in many of the homes they test.

“People are more aware of it in other states. With a lot of the new people moving in from out of state we get a lot more business for radon tests because they test for it in other states like Illinois, Minnesota, out on the east coast, Pennsylvania it’s kind of a big issue,” says Home Inspector, Brady Sexton.

Home inspectors like Sexton will set up the radon test.

He says more than half of the houses he checks have high levels of radon.

Minnesota Department of Health and Cass County Public Health can also help you with radon testing kits.
