Beer Cans and a Machete: Brawl Ends in Arrests

One man is hospitalized and two more behind bars after a fight that involved beer cans and a machete.

Even though someone was sent to the hospital, police say the brawl could have ended up a lot worse.

Police arrested 27-year-old Michael Cox and 57-year-old William Owens.

The two were allegedly involved in an argument at an apartment in the 1300 block of 3rd Avenue South.

Cox allegedly threw a full beer can at a third person, injuring him.

He was hospitalized.

Police say Owens, who lives in the apartment, then grabbed a machete and chased the combatants out of the apartment.

Authorities say, thankfully, the fight didn’t escalate from there.

“I believe the machete was brandished in hopes of breaking up the fight that was going on, but when you introduce weapons into a fight there’s always, there’s a higher chance that someone’s going to get significantly injured,” says Deputy Chief Joe Anderson with the Fargo Police Department.

Cox was arrested for aggravated assault. Owens was arrested for resisting a police officer.

Police did not know the condition of the man who was hit by the beer can, but say it’s likely he has already been released from the hospital.
