Fargo Police Keeping Public Informed About Downtown Crime

Fargo Police want to keep the public informed on its highest crime area, downtown.

The Fargo Police Department is staying busy.

One of the highest calls for service comes from the 400 block of Broadway.

Officers say they want to target crime not just on Broadway but also two to three blocks on either side.

They also hope to have more officers walking the streets.

There are six cameras downtown but police say there could be hundreds more with the help of citizens and their smart phones.

“It’s important for them to know what’s going on because if they know what’s going on they can help us solve problems and number two it helps them to be able to see what we’re doing to solve those problems so they have an understanding of why the police department is doing what it’s doing,” says Fargo Police Chief Dave Todd.

Many people who live in the area say they are tired of bars over serving alcohol, something Fargo police may be working on for 2016.

This past year they received 74,500 calls for service across the city.

That equates to 204 calls for service each day.

Chief Todd says the department is understaffed for the amount of calls.
