Becker County Officials Plan Security Changes for Courthouse

Becker County Courthouse officials are looking to beef up security in the months ahead.

Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander says the county is still in the beginning stages of what exact changes will be made, but he says safety is always their first priority.

As the times are continuing to change for law enforcement, Sheriff Glander says there is always room for being proactive about safety.

“The nation has changed recently with incidents, different shootings in the different areas. Even though we do have emergency procedures in place there’s always room for improvement,” said Sheriff Glander.

The county will be looking at updating security not just at the courthouse, but at all four of its buildings, including the human services building and county highway facility.

Sheriff Todd Glander says the county is looking at things like a one way entry and updating and adding on to their current camera system.

Danny Johnson has worked as head of maintenance at the courthouse for 32 years; he also says the changes are timely.

“Yeah, it’s something that’s necessary with society the way everything is changing it’s not the way it was 30 years ago that’s for sure,” said Danny.

He says when it comes to safety extra surveillance would make all of the difference.

“The thing about this building is it’s got so many curves and spots where you can’t see. I think security cameras would be a good idea to our existing system,” said Danny.

Sheriff Glander says it will take time before any solid decisions are made.

“I would say this is a several month process, and right now were still in the discussion stages of what we can do better,” said Sheriff Glander.

The county is hoping to decide on the changes, and start the implementation process by the end of the year.
